Assistant Pastor
Ernest Mizzell
Pastor Ernest D. Mizzell, Sr. is a proud native of Ahoskie, North Carolina, born April 10, 1956.
He graduated high school and joined the Army National Guard, serving 3 1/5 years. During that
time, he attended junior college. After junior college, he enlisted in the United States Army for
20 years. While stationed at Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on December 18,
1983, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Though he did not attend Bible College, he was thankful and blessed to have been taught by
pastors and take courses to prepare for the ministry.
Before retiring at Fort Huachuca, AZ, he and his wife began to pray for guidance and direction.
God led him to serve with Pastor David Burden at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Akron, OH.
While in Ohio, Pastor Mizzell had the honor to work at the Veterans Service Commission, where
he worked with veterans and their families, submitted claims, provided financial assistance, and,
most of all, had the opportunity to share the Word of God with his clients for 20 years.
After serving at Lighthouse for five years, Pastor Mizzell was called by God to begin an intercity
ministry in Canton, OH, where he ministered for 13 years. He saw many come and go but was
truly thankful for the few who were faithful and still serving the Lord today. Unfortunately, due
to COVID, he had to close the church. After much prayer, the Lord led him to Truth Baptist
Church, Jacksonville, FL.
Pastor Mizzell and his wife, Melinda, have been married for 43 years. They are blessed with
three children and nine grandchildren.
